Province announces investment in upgrades to Aéroport de la Péninsule
The province says a $1.2 million investment will go toward improvements at the Aéroport de la Péninsule.
A total of $700,000 is being provided through the federal Gas Tax Fund, while $500,000 comes from the Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund.
The project will see upgrades made to the runway air strip, which includes an extension of the runway and repairs to the lighting system.
Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier says the airport is an essential piece of infrastructure in the region because it ensures the safety of people who need urgent health care with transportation by air ambulance.
He says it also plays an important role in emergency response to such events as forest fires and rescues at sea.
