Province hires fifteen French immersion leads for upcoming school year
The provincial government says 68 schools will offer early French immersion in the upcoming school year, including seven for the first time.
French immersion leads were hired based on the number of immersion classes offered in each district: two for Anglophone North, three for the Anglophone South, five for Anglophone East, and five for the Anglophone West School District.
Government says a refreshed curriculum has also been added to the anglophone school system to support the return of Grade 1 French immersion.
The province says teachers took part in professional learning this summer to familiarize themselves with the curriculum.
A two-year French-language pilot project is also beginning this year at one school in each of the anglophone districts where students will to learn to speak, read, and write in French in the areas of literacy, numeracy, art, music and culture for a minimum of 15 minutes per day.
