Province's chief coroner releases results of child death review

The results of a review into the death of a newborn have been released by the province's chief coroner.

The Child Death Review Committee has reviewed the death of the child whose family was known to the Department of Social Development and was receiving services through Child Protection Services.

The province says the newborn boy died about three hours after birth from complications associated with prematurity.

Recommendations were not made by the committee in this case.

The committee reviews the deaths of children under the age of 19, including those who were in the legal care of the minister of Families and Children, or whose families were in contact with the Department of Social Development within a year before the child's death.
