Province says attracting new farmers important part of economic growth plan

The New Brunswick government says attracting new farmers is an important part of its economic growth plan.

Agriculture Minister Rick Doucet says the province's strong agricultural sector has traditionally been anchored in generations of family farmers, but that pipeline for new farmers has declined in recent years.

Doucet says an abundance of natural resources and competitive land prices make New Brunswick the perfect place for new farmers.

Provincial figures show there were 13,000 people employed in agriculture and farming in 2015, generating $570 million in food production.
