Province says majority of property owners won't see any change in tax assessments this week

The New Brunswick government says 84 per cent of property owners will not see any change in their tax assessments being mailed out this week.

That's because an assessment freeze was put in place last year after a new digital system implemented by Service New Brunswick led to inflated tax bills for thousands of property owners.

The province says 12.5 per cent of property owners will see a decrease in their assessments.

It says exceptions to the freeze include new construction or renovations and notes that while the property assessment remains at the 2017 level, half of local governments have increased their tax rate, which affects total property taxes payable.
