Province to begin providing basic adoption information on April 1st
The provincial government will soon be able to provide basic birth and adoption information to adoptees and birth parents.
Government says changes to the Family Services Act will provide access to identifying information regarding an adoption through the Department of Social Development's Post-Adoption Disclosure Services branch.
There are also options available for people who do not wish to have their information released.
Government says it's encouraging anyone who wishes to remain anonymous to file a disclosure vetoe, which will prevent the release of any identifying information.
A contact preference document can also be filed, which allows limits to be placed on contact from the person requesting the information.
The province will be able to provide the details starting on April 1st.
