Province unveils site of new francophone school in Oromocto
We now know where a new francophone school in Oromocto, N.B., for kindergarten to Grade 8 students will be located.
The province says the new school will be built on Carpenter Drive and is expected to open in September of 2019.
It says the $20.5-million school will accommodate about 450 students and will replace the existing École Arc-en-ciel.
Students moved into the current school, which used to house the court of justice, in 1984.
Paul Demers, chair of the Francophone sud school district education council, says the site is ideal for a modern infrastructure that will better meet the needs of students.
The school will feature music and art rooms, science labs, a performing arts room, a gym, a cafeteria, a stage, multi-purpose rooms, a library, and spaces for staff and administration.
Officials say several factors were considered when choosing the site, including community amenities, community school use, catchment area, accessibility of the site, available utilities, transportation strategies, natural site conditions and site size.
