RCMP say 26 drivers given tickets for distracted driving

RCMP say 26 drivers have been given tickets for distracted driving following a month long operation.

Police say several traffic operations took place in and around the communities of St. Stephen and McAdam last month with a particular focus on people using electronic devices while driving.

Sgt. Peter Stubbs with the St. Stephen RCMP Detachment says they take a zero tolerance approach to people using their phones while driving.

The use of a handheld electronic device like a phone or GPS  is considered distracted driving under the Motor Vehicle Act of New Brunswick.

The fine for distracted driving is $172.50.
