Saint John Police say two men charged after "turf war" over best place to panhandle
The Saint John Police Force says two men have been charged after a "turf war" broke out between them over the best place to panhandle.
Officers driving down Somerset Street spotted the two men fighting in the middle of the intersection of Somerset Street and Paradise Row Wednesday afternoon.
Police say when they arrived it appeared the pair was in a heated verbal argument over where to stand to have access to the cars stopping for the traffic light.
They say both were attempting to panhandle in the median.
A 32-year-old man and a 38-year-old man were charged with causing a disturbance and placed on conditions to abstain from panhandling in Saint John as a result.
The men were issued court documents requiring their attendance in court at a later date.
