Statistics Canada says 1,800 jobs added in New Brunswick last month

Statistics Canada says the economy lost 7,500 jobs in May as a drop in full-time employment was only partially offset by an increase in part-time jobs.

The unemployment rate held steady at 5.8 per cent for the fourth consecutive month.

The overall drop in the number of jobs came as full-time positions fell by 31,000, offset in part by a gain of 23,600 part-time positions.

In New Brunswick, 1,800 new jobs were added last month. 

Statistics Canada says 2,800 full-time positions were added, while 1,000 part-time positions were lost. 

The unemployment rate in the province dropped to 7.3 per cent from 8.0 per cent.
