Truro Centurions swim team rack up medals at Halifax event
The Truro Centurions swim team took part in the David Fry Senior Provincial Swimming Championships this past weekend at the Dalplex in Halifax. The 4 day event featured the fastest swimmers from across Atlantic Canada representing 19 different swim teams. Swimmers each could take part in 6 individual events. Madison Bond was the top performer for the Centurions on the weekend winning an award for the 13 and under girl with the most points collected during the meet. Bond won gold in the 200M breast, 100M breast, 50M breast, and 200M IM. Bond won silver in the 400M IM and finished fourth in the 200M back.
Julianne Dowe won two silvers and a bronze also competing the girls 13 and under age category. Dowe finished second in the 50M and 100M breast, finished third in the 200M breast, and finished fourth in the 50M back. Jenna Gallant qualified for the 200M fly final and finished fifth.
In the girls 14 and 15 year old category Amy Barnhill qualified for 4 finals and won a bronze in the 200M fly. Barnhill also finished eighth in the 50M fly final, fourth in the 100M fly B final, and seventh in the 200M IM B final.
In the girls 16 and over age category Katie Archibald won a silver medal in the 200M breast, finished fourth in the 100M breast, and finished fourth in the 50M breast.
In the boys 14 and 15 year old category Brett Hutt-Semple qualified for 6 finals. Hutt-Semple finished fourth in the 400M IM, fifth in the 200M fly, seventh in the 100M fly, third in the 200M IM B final, third in the 400M free B final, and seventh in the 200M free B final.
In the boys 16 and over category Dean Sangster qualified for 6 finals and won silver medals in the 200M back and the 50M back. Sangster also finished fifth in the 100M fly, fourth in the 100M back, sixth in the 50M free, and finished first in the 100M free B final.
Matthew Hunter won gold in the boys 16 and over 200M fly. Hunter also came away with 4 para medals. Hunter won gold in the 50M fly and won bronze medals in the 50M free, 50M back, and 100M free.
