Two traffic stops in N.B. yield 200,000 illegal cigarettes

RCMP have seized 200,000 illegal cigarettes after a pair of unrelated traffic stops this week.

A search of a vehicle on Highway 2 in Waterville Tuesday afternoon led to the discovery of 60,000 illegal cigarettes and the arrest of a 72-year-old man from Souris, P.E.I.

The next day, police stopped a different vehicle on Highway 2 in Saint-Jacques, near the Quebec border, and found 140,000 illegal cigarettes.

Two men from Saint John, a 39-year-old and a 63-year-old, were arrested.

All three men have been released, pending court appearances in September.
