UNB Reds Athletes of the Week
2nd Year Kinesiology
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week is Brynn Nash, from the women’s soccer team.
Despite two losses to start the new Atlantic University Sport season, Nash was a top performer in both games.
In Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Cape Breton, she made eight saves on ten shots. In Sunday’s 1-0 loss at St FX, Nash saw nine more shots, stopping eight.
“Brynn had a strong first weekend in goal,” said Reds head coach Jon Crossland. “She was busy both days, but especially on Sunday. She made a couple outstanding saves to keep us within a goal and give us an opportunity to get a point. We’ll need Brynn to be her steady self throughout our season, and as we prep for our home-opening weekend.”
Nash and her Reds teammates host the Dal Tigers in UNB’s home opener, Saturday at 1:00pm.
4th Year Bachelor of Science
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza male Athlete of the Week is Alex O’Brien, from the men’s soccer team.
O’Brien scored UNB’s goal in Saturday’s 1-1 season-opening draw against Cape Breton Capers, the country’s top-ranked team.
“Alex’s experience and work ethic enabled him to have impactful performances against two very good teams on the weekend,” said Reds head coach Miles Pinsent.
O’Brien and his Reds teammates host Dalhousie in UNB’s home opener, Saturday at 3:15pm.
