UNB Reds Athletes of the Week
1st Year Arts
Garden Village, ON
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza female athlete of the week is Lily George, from the women’s hockey team.
George was a consistent threat for the Reds in a pair of games last week.
In Wednesday’s hard-fought 2-1 loss to St. Thomas, George posed problems for Tommies’ defenders.
In Saturday’s 3-1 win at UPEI, she assisted on the game-winning goal and scored an insurance marker.
“Lily had a beautiful goal and assist against UPEI, which were integral in securing a win to end the first half,” says Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Lily has gotten better this first half, and her point production this weekend was a reward to the hard work she has put in.”
George and the Reds resume their Atlantic University Sport regular season schedule on January 4th, at St FX.
2nd Year Recreation and Sport Studies
St. John’s, NL
The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza male athlete of the week is Tyler Boland, from the men’s hockey team.
Boland was a big contributor to a pair of weekend wins, as the Reds finished the first half of the season unbeaten in regulation.
Boland scored twice, added an assist, and was named player of the game in Friday’s 7-4 over the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
In Saturday’s 5-1 win at Acadia, Boland set up the game winning goal.
The assist moved him into second, behind teammate Chris Clapperton, in Atlantic University Sport scoring.
“Tyler has become a key catalyst for the continued improved performances of our team,” says Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “His consistent scoring is a product of his hard work and preparation.”
Next up for Boland and the Reds, the Peterbilt Atlantic Pete Kelly Cup, against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, December 29th, at 7:00pm, at the Aitken Centre.
