UNB to host QMJHL pre-season game
The UNB Varsity Reds will host a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season game in September.
The Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats will play at the Aitken University Centre at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Nick Zildjan, marketing and special events manager for the Varsity Reds, says the team has strong ties to both QMJHL teams.
In fact, eight current members of the UNB men's hockey team are Wildcats' or Sea Dogs' alumni.
It is one of the final pre-season games for both teams, which officials say means they will be icing line-ups that will closely resemble those they will ice once the regular season begins.
Josh Hepditch, who won three national championships while playing with UNB from 2006 until 2011, will return to the Aitken Centre as an assistance coach for the Wildcats.
Both teams have played games at the Aitken Centre in the past, but it is the first time they will face off against each other.
Tickets will cost $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and youth.
They will go on sale online at www.vreds.ca at 10 a.m. on Aug. 18, and in person at the Aitken Centre box office at 11 a.m. on Aug. 21.
