**Updated** Whale carcass washes ashore on P.E.I.

A whale carcass has washed ashore in western Prince Edward Island.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) says the Minke whale carcass was first reported floating in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence on Saturday.

Spokesperson Krista Petersen says the whale was reported beached near Cape Wolfe, P.E.I., on Sunday.

At least 10 critically endangered North Atlantic right whales have been found dead in the Gulf since June.

Unlike North Atlantic right whales, Petersen says Minke whales are not a species at risk.

Petersen says there are no obvious signs of entanglement or serious injury on the carcass, adding that DFO does not plan to conduct a necropsy or take samples.
