Woodstock Police warn of scam artists after person duped over faux leather jackets

Woodstock Police are warning the public to be aware of scam artists after a recent incident in the parking lot of a local business.

Police say the complainant was exiting a business when a man approached and asked directions to Fredericton.

After being helped, the man thanked the person and offered to sell a jacket at a good price.

Police say the man claimed he was a designer traveling through to Fredericton with genuine leather jackets worth $1,500, and provided a brochure to try and prove their legitimacy.

The man offered the victim seven jackets for $500, and the complainant purchased them, but it was later determined the jackets were made with faux leather.

Police say the license plate on the vehicle was tracked to a rental company in Quebec.
