Fort McMurray Man Says Fort McMurray Fires Helped Him Lose Over 300 Pounds

Tony was 567 pounds when he was working in Fort McMurray in May 2016, right before the fires hit. Planes were sent to where he and his coworkers were at to evacuate them quickly from the fires that were getting closer. When Tony got on the plane he had to take up two spots due to his size, and he said this was his breaking point.

"I kept thinking, Here it is: somebody's wife, somebody's husband, somebody's family member is waiting for their mom or dad or their loved one to come home, and their loved ones have to wait longer now because I'm too fat to sit next to.'

After he arrived in Edmonton he immediatly started eating healthier and going on walks in order to lose weight. In total he ended up losing 326 pounds, without surgery or help. He said he hopes to run a marathon on the fifth anniversary of the fires.
