Justin Timberlake Receiving Icon Award
Justin Timberlake will be honoured next month at the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) annual induction ceremony in New York City.
The 38-year-old pop star will receive the Contemporary Icon Award, which recognizes “a songwriter-artist who has attained an iconic status in pop culture.” The previous recipient was Lady Gaga in 2015.
Timberlake has co-written his solo hits, including “SexyBack” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling” as well as some NSYNC tracks like “Girlfriend.”
Musician and SHOF chair Nile Rodgers described Timberlake as “extraordinary” in a release. “Like Michael Jackson and George Michael before him, he’s turned pop music into great art and made three or four of the most influential albums of the last 15 years.”
The presentation will take place June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Inductees include Missy Elliott, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), John Prine, Tom T. Hall, Jack Tempchin and Dallas Austin.
