Lil Nas X Responds To Homophobia
“Old Town Road” rapper Lil Nas X said Friday he is taking the hate from homophobes on social media in stride.
“I'm not angry or anything because I understand how they want that reaction," he said during an appearance on BBC Breakfast. “So I'm just going to joke back with them.”
Lil Nas X, who has had the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks, came out publicly on Twitter last Sunday.
"Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more,” he tweeted.
The 20-year-old told BBC Breakfast he knows being gay remains taboo in the country and hip-hop communities but he needs to live his authentic self.
“How big of a deal is that? Is it something that I was considering never doing ever, like taking to the grave or something?
“But I was like, I don' t want to live my entire life – especially how I got to where I'm at – not doing what I want to do.”
