Harvey Weinstein, Georgina Chapman Separate
The wife of embattled Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein said Tuesday she is leaving him after a decade of marriage.
The separation is the latest blow to the 65-year-old producer of made-in-Toronto films like Chicago, 54, and Killshot, following a bombshell report last week in the New York Times that detailed decades of sexual harassment allegations.
Weinstein was removed from the company he co-founded as more women came forward with experiences of their own — among them stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Rosanna Arquette, and Heather Graham.
In a statement, Weinsten’s wife Georgina Chapman, 41, said: “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”
Weinstein issued a statement in which he said he supports his wife’s decision. “I am in counseling and perhaps, when I am better, we can rebuild,” he said. “Over the last week, there has been a lot of pain for my family that I take responsibility for.
“I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. I understand, I love her and I love our children and hopefully, when I am better, I will be in their lives again.”
Married since 2007, the couple has children India Pearl, 7, and Dashiell, 4. Weinstein has three other children from his marriage to Eve Chilton.
A frequent guest of the Toronto International Film Festival, Weinstein has a long list of producer credits that includes Gangs of New York, The Lord of the Rings, Sin City, Carol and Lion as well as the TV series Project Runway.
