NeNe Leakes Apologizes For Rape Comment

NeNe Leakes apologized Monday after taking heat for telling a heckler she hopes she gets raped.

“I truly regret and apologize for what I said from the stage in Oakland over the weekend,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star wrote on Facebook. “Sometimes words can cut deep and hurt when you have no intentions of them doing so.

“As a woman and someone who has survived abuse, I regret the words that I used. I made a mistake and I should have known better. I hope people accept my deepest and sincerest apologies. I am sorry.”

Leakes was doing stand-up on Saturday when she joked about male Uber drivers trying to have sex with female customers. When a woman in the crowd started heckling, Leakes shot back: “I ain't even gonna tell you about the g*****n Uber driver. I hope he rape yo' a** tonight when he take you home, b***h. And steal yo' funky hello kitty, b***h.”

The comment sparked protests on social media.

“I pray #NeneLeakes never finds out how damaging rape is,” tweeted Alicia Cruz. “Men & women who've survived a rape are never the same again. There’s no humor in that.”
