Simcoe Muskoka YMCA Suspends Chidlren's Programming
The following email was sent to YMCA members on Thursday March 13, 2020:
To our valued community members:
We understand the growing concern around the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The health of our employees, volunteers, and community members is of utmost importance to us.
This week, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed the region’s first case of COVID-19, however, it has been reported that the risk to those in our region remains low. We also learned of the decision by the Ministry of Education to close all public schools in Ontario for two additional weeks following March break.
As concern for this outbreak has continued to escalate within our region, the leadership team at our YMCA has been reviewing the impact of these decisions on our operations.
Our health and fitness locations will remain open but we are restricting the number of programs:
- Children’s programs have been cancelled for the time being. This includes child minding, Y-kids, and March break camps and other registered programs for children.
- Swim Lessons and advanced aquatics programs have been cancelled.
- All saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs will be closed.
- Our wellness floors remain open.
We will be revising our swim and fitness schedules to align with ministry of health guidelines keeping social distancing and group size in mind. We will resume normal programming as soon as local health officials indicate it is safe to do so.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to make adjustments as needed.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
