UPDATE - Teachers strikes for week of February 10th

The latest on the labour war between teachers and the province:

More teacher strikes on tap this week, impacting students in Simcoe County and Muskoka.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced their intent to proceed with a province-wide walkout on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and a one-day walkout in a number of school boards across Ontario, including the Simcoe County District School Board, on Thursday, Feb. 13. In the SCDSB, ETFO represents permanent elementary teachers, occasional elementary teachers and designated early childhood educators (DECEs).
As a result, all SCDSB elementary schools will be closed to students on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and Thursday, Feb. 13, including classes for Grade 7 and 8 students at Elmvale District High School and Stayner Collegiate Institute.

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has announced there will be two one-day strikes again next week. This will impact all ETFO members in the province on Tuesday, February 11 and Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) as part of a rotating strike on Thursday, February 13, if an agreement with the province and ETFO is not reached. Elementary schools in TLDSB will be closed to students on both these days. Secondary schools will remain open.

OECTA (elementary, secondary and occasional teachers) will be enhancing their administrative job action beginning Tuesday, February 11. The enhanced administrative job action means that during the regular school day, OECTA members will only undertake their scheduled teaching and supervision duties. They will not accept additional tasks or assignments. Parent-teacher interviews will go ahead if they have been scheduled. Teachers will continue to participate in extra-curricular activities.

The Association of Teachers Franco-Ontarian (AEFO) issued a new notice of strike indicating that the Francophone teachers will begin the Phase 3 of their means of pressure with holding a day of general strike affecting ALL schools the Thursday February 13 .

Meanwhile the province is offering parents funding from $25 to $60 a day to help cover the additional childcare costs. Most of the money will go to parents of pre-schoolers who attend daycare centres that are impacted by strikes, with less for parents of students in Grades one through seven. No compensation is being offered to parents of Grade 8 or high school students.
