Taylor Swift Ties Whitney Houston For Weeks At No. 1
Taylor Swift has tied the late Whitney Houston as the female artist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Swift’s folklore tops the album chart for a sixth week, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, meaning the pop star has had seven albums spend a total of 46 weeks at No. 1. Houston, who died in 2012, had four albums spend the same number of weeks at the top of the chart.
Adele is not far behind, with 34 weeks, but Swift and Houston trail The Beatles’ 132 weeks at the top of the chart. Still, Swift and The Beatles are the only two acts in history to have at least five albums spend six weeks at No. 1.
The Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums in the U.S. The Sept. 12 chart will be published on Wednesday.
Swift’s surprise release folklore has spent the most number of weeks at No. 1 of any album this year.
With Katy Perry’s Smile debuting at No. 5, it is the first time since February that albums by solo female artists are in the Top 5 at the same time.
