All-Candidates Debate To Focus On The Environment

Local federal election candidates for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes are set to go head-to-head in their next debate Wednesday.

The debate focuses on environmental issues, and is just one of 100 taking place across the country over the next few days.

Organizer Patricia Sutherland says it’s very timely.

"We just witnessed last Friday's Climate Action marches and the incredible turn out of youth, that they are mobilized on this issue and that they care," she says.

"And polling shows that the environment is the top three issues of concern for the upcoming federal election."

The debates are being organized nation-wide by a group called 100 Debates, and Sutherland says all the candidates across the country will be facing the same four questions. The candidates for this riding are then going to face two questions on locally based issues.

The all-candidates’ debate will be taking place at the Aquatarium starting at 7pm Wednesday.

If residents are coming from Kemptville, there's a $5 shuttle available leaving from the Municipal Centre at 6pm. Tickets can be bought to take it at Geronimo coffee house and Brewed Awakening until 4pm.
