Chelios, Bertuzzi Named To The Wings Alumni Team For the Brockville Winter Classic
The Detroit Red Wings Alumni Roster has been announced for the Brockville Winter Classic Weekend in 2020.
Chris Chelios and Todd Bertuzzi are just two of the nine players coming to the city to take on the Tim Horton’s All Stars.
Those include some with a local connection.
Former Wings Defenceman Todd Gill will hit the ice with the team at Rotary Park. Gill played for the Brockville Braves during the ’81-’82 season. While fellow defenceman Randy Ladouceur is originally from Brockville; he also played for the Brockville Blackhawks in 1976-77.
Other players in the line-up include Brad Marsh, Brad May, Wayne Presley, Al Ifrate and Darren McCarty.
Organizer Jeff Severson says he’s excited to see Chelios play.
“Maybe people think he’s a Wing, a Hawk, I’m a Habs fan so I’m really excited to meet Chris as a Habs fan,” he says. “but overall for the event itself and for Brockville, just bringing in a Hall of Fame name is really exciting.”
Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, having won one with the Montreal Canadiens and two with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Winter Classic runs over the family day long weekend in February 14-17th.
Last year’s hot-stove event will make a return as it proved to be a popular one. It’s described as an “intimate evening with the Detroit Red Wings with a Motown feel.” The All-Star Game is set to follow the next day.
There will be events throughout the weekend.
Brockville Winter Classic is an annual fundraiser to raise money for improvements for Rotary Park.
