UPDATE: Section of highway 401 eastbound closed near Kingston after vehicle fire
Police confirm that the vehicle struck the concrete barrier causing a fuel spill that resulted in a fire that destroyed both the tractor and trailer.
"The Ministry of the Environment is managing the fuel clean-up and the Ministry of Transportation is assessing any damage to the road because of the fire," OPP say in a release.
The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured and charges are not expected.
Provincial police say a section of the eastbound highway 401 through Kingston is closed after a vehicle fire.
It happened on the 401 at Montreal Road.
In a release, OPP tweeting out just after 6 am, “a truck hit a concrete barrier in a construction zone and caught fire.”
No injuries have been reported.
Road closures are in effect until the MTO can examine if there is structural damage to the overpass.
No effect to westbound traffic on highway 401.
