In 1998, the federal government reserved the last Sunday of September as a sacred time to recognize Canada’s fallen police officers, human beings that paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe. But on the eve of this year’s national service, the RCMP’s B.C. Department was struck by tragedy once again. The province’s police watchdog says RCMP Constable Rick O’Brien was shot dead on Friday after issuing an arrest warrant in Coquitlam. At just 51 years old, the fallen officer leaves behind a wife and kids, a storyline that strikes a chord with every single police detachment across the country. Steve Boucher is a Ceremonial Sergeant Major with the Ottawa Police Service. He joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Live.
