Planning committee approves purchase of federal lands for affordable housing complex
An affordable housing complex could be coming to Little Italy.
The city's Planning Committee has approved a plan to buy 289 Carling Avenue from the federal government for $1.
Committee Chair Jan Harder says they'll sell that land to be developed.
"Now we'll go out to all the housing providers and we'll say to them 'what do you think? Who's interested? Show us your plan,'" she said. "We're not looking for something massive or intensive. We're not looking for high, maybe four or five storeys, and certainly maybe bachelor units."
The building is expected to have between 40 and 45 units.
The request for proposals is expected to go out at the end of 2017 or in early 2018.
