Ottawa Now – ‘Given what’s happening in America, we can’t afford to be complacent’: Infectious disease specialist says Canadians are ‘playing with fire’ with gatherings like the one at Mooney’s Bay on Canada Day


Ottawa Police had to shut down a Canada Day celebration at Mooney’s Bay, as hundreds of people gathered on the beach Wednesday afternoon and evening. At one point, one officer said there was almost 3,500 people present in the area, while witnesses reported very little physical distancing. Dr. Abdu Sharkawy, an infectious disease specialist, says the rising number of COVID-19 cases in America shows Canadians we can’t afford to be complacent.
