Ottawa Now – ‘If we are going to keep schools open, everyone has to do their part’: COVID-19 cases increasing as students begin the staggered return to the classroom

For some students in certain cohorts, class was back in session on Tuesday. Of course, it is not a typical first day back after the COVID-19 pandemic halted classroom learning back in March. Meantime, 190 students are self-isolating after possible exposure at the French Catholic School Board, and Ontario’s overall numbers are creeping up. Health Minister Christine Elliott says the provincial government will be taking a four-week pause from loosening further restrictions. Dr. Raywat Deonandan, an Epidemiologist and Science Communicator at the University of Ottawa, says everyone has to do their part if we want to keep schools open.
