As small businesses begin the challenging task of reopening during a pandemic, some have decided to introduce a COVID-19 surcharge. The fee is designed to help cover the cost of personal protective equipment for employees, increased sanitation measures, or any income lost from reducing the number of customers a business is allowed to serve. We have seen this in hair salons and restaurants in other provinces that are starting to reopen. Will we start to see this in Ontario when more businesses get up and running?
