$80,000 is on the way to help provide food for struggling residents in Niagara.

Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey announced the funding to improve food security for Niagara Centre residents facing
social, economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds were distributed between Port Cares Reach Out Centre, The Hope Centre, Open Arms Mission of Welland, and St. Catharines & Welland CFS.

"Each day individuals come to Open Arms Mission expressing their fears and uncertainty about whether they will have enough food for their families. They want healthy food, yet they are not always able to get it. The federal government has responded to these fears and has provided financial support to agencies, like Open Arms Mission, so that they can build infrastructure that will help them to provide more effective long-term support to those who are in need in their community. We are grateful for the substantial contribution of $12,990 to help fight food insecurity in Welland from the federal government. These funds will help obtain another walk-in freezer, valuable storage that will help provide a more stable food source for the people of Welland. Through this contribution the federal government is investing in the future and helping end food insecurity in Niagara."
