BREAKING | All schools in Ontario will be closed Friday Feb 21st
Most schools in Niagara, and across the province will be closed Friday February 21st.
The province's four major teacher unions say they will stage a one-day walkout to press contract demands.
About 5000 schools with more than two-million students would be affected.
This is is the first time since the political protest of 1997 that teachers and education workers from Ontario’s main education affiliates will all be out of their classrooms on the same day.
Nearly 200,000 teachers and education workers will strike across 72 school boards.
The union leaders made the announcement in Toronto today where Ontario's education minister is set to speak.
Stephen Lecce is scheduled to talk to the Canadian Club at the Royal York hotel about preparing students for the jobs of the future.
Teachers filled the sidewalk outside the hotel, stretching nearly the entire block.
They held signs criticizing the government's plan to increase class sizes and calling for Lecce to be fired.
Today, elementary students with the District School Board of Niagara are taking part in a second strike day.
Tomorrow, all DSBN high schools will be closed, along with the French boards.
