BREAKING | CN and Via Rail cancelling services due to ongoing blockades

C-N Rail says it is shutting down its train network in Eastern Canada due to ongoing blockades by anti-pipeline protesters.

The company says that means stopping all transcontinental trains across its Canadian network.

Via Rail says that also means suspending all of its passenger service in Canada.

Federal and British Columbia officials are tentatively set to meet with Indigenous leaders in the hope of ending the rail blockades.

Protesters have said they're acting in solidarity with those opposed to the Coastal GasLink pipeline project that crosses Wet'suwet'en traditional territory in northwestern B-C.

A blockade of a major rail line west of Winnipeg has come down, but protesters say they will take more action soon.
