The Mississauga native downed tennis great Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 in New York to become the first Canadian to ever win a Grand Slam singles title.

Seeded No. 15 at the major, Andreescu will reach a career high No. 5 when the new W-T-A rankings are released Monday.

She also earned a cool 3.85-million-dollars-US for the victory.

''SheTheNorth'' was trending on Twitter during and after the match.

The 2019 N-B-A Champion Toronto Raptors, who use ''WeTheNorth'' as their team hashtag, congratulated Andreescu with a tweet that read: ''SheTheChamp.''

Andreescu also beat Williams in the Rogers Cup final last month when the American withdrew due to injury.
