Community donates more than $57,000 after family tragedy
A family that was struck by tragedy while relocating from Vancouver to St. Catharines says they've been overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers.
Carla Jeffreys and her husband and three children were driving across the country when their stopped SUV was rear ended Wednesday afternoon in Alberta by a big rig.
The crash claimed the life of Jeffrey's 10 year old son and sent her and three other members of the the family to hospital.
A GoFundMe page was set up for the family and has raised more than $57,000
Jeffreys had recently graduated from Brock University and had decided to relocate her family to the Garden City.
The University issued a statement late last week encouraging people to donate to the fundraising effort.
