Doug Ford confirms visit to his cottage over the Easter weekend

Premier Doug Ford faced questions this afternoon about going to his cottage over the Easter long weekend after telling Ontario residents to stay home.

Ford says he went to his cottage in the Muskoka region to check on the plumbing of his summer residence.

He says he got the Sunday morning of Easter off, the first day off in two months, so he decided to drive up to the cottage to check on the plumbing.

Ford says pipes have burst in the cottage before so he just wanted to check on them.

His office told our sister station in Toronto, Newstalk 1010, that he did not stop anywhere on the trip and was there for about an hour.

Ford had told reporters in early April that city-dwellers should stay home to avoid burdening the smaller health-care facilities in cottage country.
