A new emergency order allows the Ontario government to step in if a long-term care home has a high number of COVID-19 infections or deaths or has a shortage of staff.
Premier Doug Ford says the move will help contain the spread of the virus in care homes.
Some 180 care homes have reported COVID-19 outbreaks and more than 1,200 long-term care residents in Ontario have died of COVID-19.
