Federal government hoping to get full approval for Canada Emergency Student Benefit
The federal government is hoping for a swift approval of the new Canada Emergency Student Benefit.
A handful of MPs will be meeting today, but the move will need unanimous approval to pass because parliament is adjourned.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has called the proposal unfair and said his party won't support it.
The Conservaties are asking for changes, including more incentives for young people to take available jobs instead of collecting the aid.
During his daily address Justin Trudeau outlined the Benefit, saying it will offer $1,250 a month until August for qualifying students.
The government is also trying to create additional student jobs to help the frontline.
