Feds stepping up to the plate with Summer Games announcement planned in Welland Thursday
The federal government is set to announce its funding for the 2021 Summer Games in Niagara.
A news conference will be held tomorrow at the Welland International Flatwater Centre.
The announcement is being called an "important infrastructure event for the Niagara Region."
Two weeks ago, the Ontario government announced a cost-shared investment of $29 million for the construction of new sport facilities.
The announcement stated that the provincial funding was pending federal approval and contributions from other partners.
Some of the planned projects for the games include the Canada Games Park in Thorold, the Henley Rowing Centre in St. Catharines, baseball fields in Welland and Niagara Falls, softball fields in Grimsby, West Lincoln, and Wainfleet and upgrades to its cycling course.
