Grimsby man facing two counts of assaulting an officer after standoff

A Grimsby man is facing two counts of assaulting an officer after a standoff yesterday.

Police were called to the Murray and Olive Street area at 10 a.m. yesterday in response to a nude man trying to enter numerous homes in the area.

When officers located him and tried to ascertain his welfare, the man assaulted an officer.

As the man advanced on officers again, a taser was used, but it was ineffective.

The man then fled on foot and barricaded himself within his home.

While officers tried to negotiate with the man, a nearby school and daycare were placed on lockdown.

Officials stood by at the end of the school day to ensure all students were picked up safely.

The ordeal came to a peaceful end just after 6 p.m. as 50 year old Attila Buri was arrested and charged.
