IceDogs Way to officially become David S. Howes Way
The former IceDogs Way will officially be renamed in a ceremony tomorrow.
The road leading from McGuire Street to the Meridian Centre will be renamed David S. Howes Way recognizing the significant contributions Howes made to the city, Brock University and numerous other causes in our area.
The change comes after a naming rights deal with the owners of the IceDogs fell through.
Originally the Burkes were told they could secure the naming rights in perpetuity in exchange for a $1,000,000 donation to the arena.
Later on, city staff tried to limit the deal to 20 years and the Burkes decided to give their donation to other local causes instead.
The city did try to make good on the original promise, but the IceDog owners had made up their minds to cancel the deal
The renaming ceremony gets underway at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon.
