Metrolinx begins disinfecting trains and buses to prevent spread of coronavirus

With the number of COVID-19 cases across the country growing, transit agencies are starting to take steps to protect their customers.

Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins says long-lasting disinfectant spray was tested on one of its GO Transit trains recently, and now they are in the midst of using it on their entire fleet.

Aikens says the Microbe Shield Antimicrobial Spray is non-toxic, odourless and doesn't stick or stain.

She explains it works by putting a coating on surfaces that prevents bacteria from accumulating.

Niagara Regional Transit has no plans at this time to start using the new spray.
