Niagara Falls council awaiting direction from the province on public pools
Niagara Falls residents may still be able to head to public splash pads and pools to cool off this summer.
Council unanimously approved a motion to open all seven splash pads by mid-June if the province and the region give the okay to do so.
But council also noted all pools will stay closed if emergency orders aren't lifted by August 1st.
The motion originally asked councillors to allow three pools to open by Canada Day if provincial officials deem it safe, but council argued it would be better to open all seven pools to allow residents to spread out more.
Ultimately, council decided it is too early to make a call regarding the pools, and they will revisit the idea at the next council meeting in June.
Either way, the city will not be offering swimming lessons this year.
