Niagara Furniture Bank looking for help after truck was stolen
A devastating blow for the Niagara Furniture Bank in St.Catharines.
Workers at the non-profit organization, which donates furniture to families in need arrived at the Ontario St. office to find its delivery truck stolen.
Executive Director Nancy Sutton tells CKTB they received a call this morning from a good Samaritan in Hamilton asking why the Niagara Furniture Bank's truck was running outside his home.
Sutton says it appears the truck was stolen, had furniture in the back stolen and left running on the side of the road.
She says three families in need of beds and couches were set to receive them today, but that won't happen now.
The bank gives furniture to people in need thanks to donations from the community.
The truck is used to pick up furniture donations and them deliver them to families in need.
Sutton is hoping a tow truck company can pitch in and help get the truck back to Niagara.
She says they do have insurance on the truck, but it's not clear if it will be drivable since it appears it was hotwired.
Sutton says even the $500 deductible is a devastating blow for their agency.
She is also hoping people who are looking at getting rid of their furniture will consider calling them.
