Niagara introducing another certified living wage employer
Marmax Machine & Manufacturing is a family owned and operated steel processing facility based out of Thorold.
They are the latest company in the region to become a certified living wage employer.
Office Administrator Maura Blair says they've actually been paying a living wage since they hired their first employee back in 2007.
Maramax Machine & Manufacturing currently employs ten full time and one part time staff.
A living wage reflects what earners need to be paid based on the actual costs of living and being included in the community. The 2018 living wage for Niagara region has been calculated to be $17.99/hour.
The region has selected two new garbage collectors that will take over in October of 2020. Director of Waste Management Services with the Niagara Region, Catherine Habermebl joins the show to discuss the the companies that will be taking over and the process of the decision.
MTO will be making the Thorold tunnel one way for the winter. Thorold Mayor, Terry Ugilini joins the show to discuss how they`re trying to work out solutions that can work for the city and MTO moving forward.
The Winter Festival of Lights launches this weekend for it`s 37th year. Executive Director, Tina Myers talks about what to expect from this years launch. The opening ceremonies start at 3 pm today until 8 pm. They have new interactive exhibits along with the traditional fireworks.
