Niagara SPCA & Humane Society offers low cost care to Manitoulin Island communities
The Niagara SPCA & Humane Society is travelling to the Manitoulin Island area to spay or neuter almost 100 pets in First Nations communities.
Niagara's Mobile Outreach Clinic has visited the communities several times over the last few years, offering veterinary services to improve pet health and wellbeing.
They anticipate performing 90 wellness exams, including vaccinations, flea and tick control, de-worming, and microchipping.
Representatives say low cost services are far less common in the remote areas of Ontario.
So far this year, Niagara SPCA's mobile facility has performed 460 surgeries and 300 exams.
A simulation that was put on by Niagara Health this week that helps train doctors with a mannequin that acts like a human body.
City Council approved sharp bins in the community to try and cut down on needles found in public spaces.
