NRP launch new distracted driving campaign
Niagara Regional Police have launched a distracted driving campaign, with an emphasis on communication devices.
Motorists are reminded that using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle is an offence. This includes using a phone while waiting at a traffic light or holding the device in your hand while driving. The NRP say they will be using different techniques to enforce these offences.
A first conviction can lead to a fine of up $1,000, three demerit points and a three-day suspension.
Distracted driving continues to be the top cause of motor vehicle collisions and has surpassed the number of fatalities caused by impaired driving in Ontario.
The NRP's latest distracted driving initiative is expected to run for twelve weeks.
